My friend, Donna, sent me samples of Lady Bug’s beautifully hand painted truffles. There are 16 flavors and 16 different paintings; each one a little work of art. But you won’t leave these hanging around; they are meant to give pleasure not only to your eye but also to your palate.
Lady Bug hand crafts each piece of chocolate art from a base of Guittard chocolate. Guittard was my favorite chocolate to work with when I had a chocolate company. It has a higher percentage of cocoa butter than most others and contains no artificial preservatives, which results in a rich, satiny confection with a glossy finish, a discernible snap and luscious aroma. It provides a perfect canvas upon which Lady Bug chocolatiers create their artisan truffles.
Some of their most interesting truffle flavors include Oregon marionberry, bacon, and cherry bomb. The cherry bomb has a real cherry enrobed in chocolate with the stem of the cherry sticking out – fun!
In addition to truffles, Lady Bug also creates fluffy handmade marshmallows and creamy small-batch caramels. And, of course, lady bug shaped pops and solid chocolate lady bugs. Rumor has it that if a lady bug lands on you, you will have good luck. Wonder if chocolate lady bugs count.
From the selection that Donna sent me, my favorite was the rum truffle because of its flavor intensity. Lady Bug makes champagne flavored truffles, but Donna didn’t know of my lifelong quest to find the perfect one, so she didn’t send one of those, and my search continues………
Where should I go next?
